The Role

Project Engineers co-ordinate and assist in the activities of the Program Management function as part of our Corporate Engineering team and actively lead tool and product maturation. Reporting to the Platform Manager in Windsor, ON, the Project Engineer based in the Fort Payne Plant will support program launch activities in the Fort Payne facility in partnership with Program Managers. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Working with Program Manager, identifying specific activities that require detailed coordination and taking ownership on designated items – leading the team members and functions interacting in the process.
  • Working both individually and in coordination with a Program Manager, to support Manufacturing and Quality Engineers to create and modify tool maturation schedules.
  • Ensuring that all problems related to tasks are being addressed, with major issues or risks being formally communicated to the Program Manager assigned.
  • Leading tool and product maturation required for the specific program (injection mold, check fixture, etc.).
  • Working both individually and in coordination with a Program Manager, to support Manufacturing and Quality Engineers to create and modify tool maturation schedules.
  • Attending team communications/product and tool design meetings on a regular basis.
  • Supporting change implementation related engineering and technical administrative activities.
  • Having full understanding of company ISO and TS standards and requirements
  • Supporting internal plant manufacturing, tooling and continuous improvement activities during management system audit events, providing evidence in support of conformance with applicable standards and procedures, and participating in corrective action activities
  • Order tracking and management; material requirement planning; mgmt. of customer required documentation as required.
  • Initiating plant trial request to support build events and orders.
  • Assisting in any way, to any employee necessary to promote a successful operation emphasizing customer satisfaction

Education

  • Must possess a recognized Engineering Technical Diploma in a related area.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience within the automotive engineering field.
  • Knowledgeable in integrated manufacturing technology, quality methods and customer deliverables as they relate to the products under development or in production at A.P. Plasman’s manufacturing facilities.

Other Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to independently travel across North America.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel.
  • Strong planning skills with ability to prioritize.
  • Solid understanding of quality systems including TS16949, ISO14001 and systems such as APQP.
